Past

Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen & Cookbook

I founded Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen in July 2010 to start an African Food Revolution and bring African foods to the masses. I’ve spent the last ten years doing just that through my supper clubs, kitchen residencies, mobile catering, a former restaurant space in Brixton, and my highly successful cookbook, Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen

My trajectory has inspired African food entrepreneurs, cooks, and chefs from the continent and the diaspora across the world and helped establish a new gastronomy - New African Cuisine. I’m proud of my contribution though I’m not one to rest on my laurels. A new dawn is here, and I want to bring about the change I want to see.

Present

Single-Origin, Decolonised Spice Trade & Kissing Cultures™

As a mixed-race, Black lesbian from a working-class immigrant background who works at the intersections of food, culture, identity, and politics, I’m driven to create change in the food landscape.

I hope for an equal balance in the representation of global cuisines. I want to see Jollof as readily accessible as ‘Curry’ in supermarkets and in the minds of diners. Africa remains the final frontier in relatively unexplored gastronomy, and I continue to push innovation in this area through my Test Kitchen, Culinary Productions & Private Dining Concept, Kissing Cultures™.

Concurrently, I’ve decided to help people take back control of the ingredients used in their food and reimagine ‘healthy eating’ through an African lens. Inspired by Sana Javeri Kadri of Diaspora Co., I am working to decolonise the spice trade in Africa and work with Black-owned businesses and African farmers so that the wealth goes back to Africa and Africans. We encourage our customers, fans, and clients to support us.

We are a social impact businesses and as we grow, at least 50% of our workforce will be from marginalised communities, and we aim to send 10% of our gross profits from the online shop to causes we care about, such as BLM.

Future

Dismantling, Disrupting & Decolonising African Food

Over the next few years, we’ll bring you the freshest heirloom and single-origin spices, grains, pulses and ancestral ingredients alongside my original recipes, suggested applications, and show you how to create bold flavours using active, healthy African ingredients.

Join us as we dismantle, disrupt, and decolonise the food industry while supporting marginalised communities and building a more equitable food system.

Everything we do is led by love, joy, bliss, and harmony, which you’ll feel in every order you receive.

Love and light,

Zoe & Sara x
